It's a private vet visit for your pet while they're in quarantine at the Mickleham PEQ facility. Our PEQ-trained vets attend the facility, examine and treat your pet, and send you full medical notes afterwards.

Where is the Mickleham PEQ facility?

135 Donnybrook Road, Mickleham VIC 3064, about 30 minutes north of Melbourne Airport. It's the only government quarantine facility for cats and dogs entering Australia.

What happens if health problems are detected during quarantine?

PEQ staff will contact you or your authorised agent and ask you to arrange a private vet. Give us a call with your PEQ reference and we'll coordinate the visit with staff, examine your pet and talk you through the treatment plan.

What does a vet visit at the PEQ facility cost?

Visits start from $349 during standard hours. Weekend and public holiday surcharges apply. Medications and extra treatments are quoted before they're given, and our team confirms the final price when you book.

How long is the quarantine period for my pet?

Most cats and dogs stay a minimum of 10 or 30 days, depending on their country of origin and import paperwork. DAFF sets the period, and it can be extended if there's a biosecurity concern.

Can I visit my pet while they're in quarantine?

No. Mickleham is a secure biosecurity facility and owners can't visit. Our vets can check on your pet and send you a full update after each visit.

How will I know how my pet is going after a visit?

You'll receive full medical notes after every visit, and the vet will explain any findings or treatment.

About Mickleham PEQ

The Mickleham Post-Entry Quarantine Facility: What Owners Need to Know

Every cat and dog coming into Australia from overseas (other than eligible pets from New Zealand) spends time at the government's Post-Entry Quarantine facility in Mickleham, north of Melbourne. It's run by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), and it's the only quarantine facility for cats and dogs in the country. Knowing how it works makes the wait a lot less stressful.

Where it is

The facility is at 135 Donnybrook Road, Mickleham VIC 3064, about 30 minutes from Melbourne Airport. Our vets are local to the area and visit regularly.

How long pets stay

Most cats and dogs stay a minimum of 10 or 30 days, depending on the country they've come from and their import paperwork. Stays can run longer if there's a biosecurity concern.

Visiting your pet

Mickleham is a secure biosecurity site, so owners can't visit during quarantine. That's why so many families book a private vet: we become your eyes and ears, and we tell you exactly how your pet is going.

Facility staff care for pets during the day and will contact you or your agent if your pet needs treatment. Arranging and paying for a private vet is up to you.
